Vasile Rață, 1966, România

The works of Vasile Rață catch the eye from the very start as something that happens on a battlefield, the author developing his narratives in an ever alert manner. As a performance-installation artist, he creates paintings utilizing cyanide, which is an unusual and not recommended working material. However, due to its historical and political connotation in Romania, the use of cyanide becomes almost mandatory just like the use of oil and blood became mandatory for Hermann Nitsch after 9/11. For this reason, Vasile Rață’s „mixed technique on canvas” represents a dangerous blend, which should be seen and consumed with a vital prudence as if this were the last work of art seen by the eye and grasped with the mind thus producing knowledge.
